Dream Full of surprises

Peace be upon you

Today I have got a very nice dream, the dream has lots of the human feelings (Fear, happiness, ...) let us take it from the start

The dream started where I was in a place that has lots of torn down buildings, the strange thing that most of this buildings was new, and under construction, I was walking in this buildings ruins, I was jumping from place to place, I made lots of successful jumps but I faced one that I stopped and I couldn't have the courage to complete, the jump was between 2 buildings + down the buildings is the land wasn't even, there was lots stones and rocks, the only thing that hold me down and stop me from doing this was the responsibility, someone was with me and I couldn't take chances while some life in my hands, so I step back, if I was alone, I may did this jump because I was going to do it but when I remember the people that hanging on me I step back, after that I moved to other place.
this place was so white, it was a lab at Samsung facility, imagine who I met there, I met Steve Jobs, he was missing with his iPhone, he was at Samsung to follow up some issues related to a product with the guys at the lab, suddenly happen something that was very strange, it is earthquake it was so strong, the Samsung building has part of it under ground connected to tunnel, this tunnel drops to City downtown, some how we managed to run from the building while it was collapsing, it was me and Steve and there was lots of people running, I found some kind of Van Car it takes about 14 passenger, I was of this passenger, I was setting at the last chair at the middle that's how I saw everyone in the van, it was white van, also all people in that car was very smart this was obvious from there personal devices, lots of small electronic devices, I forgot to tell you that I was the only one that has searchlight, suddenly we stop at the end of the tunnel, it was like disaster all the town is torn down, all buildings was mostly collapsed, I saw some kids trying to move from collapsed building to the normal land, when I reached there, I saw small girl about 7 or 8 years old, I ask her to give me her hand to help her, she said no, I will do it my self, and she told me lots of physics low stuff, she was calculating how to jump with minimum damage effect, suddenly I saw small kid also about 7 years old, he was saying very wise words about teaching the other kids something that make them gain their confidence again, all look at this kid and laugh while I was the only one who smiles to him and go with him, suddenly I woke up, I wished to know the rest :D, but for this point I am very happy, I hope that anyone analysis this :)

Thanks for your time.

Me, Cairo Startup weekend and Balooshy.

Peace be upon you

How are you? I am really sorry for not writing as usual but I promise to write more :)

First, I wasn't ignoring my blog or something, I was very loaded doing many things, isA I will disclose soon about the past month and why I wasn't on the blog so often

In 28th April 2011, Cairo Startup weekend took place in AUC, I participated with a project called "Balooshy", I didn't win any cash but I won "GEP Entrepreneurship master class", for me it was much better.

Now, I quite my job to start new thing that I wish it will work, it is called "Smartizer", Balooshy is one product of our company.

Read the story in Business monthly June 2011 issue.

I really wish to be able to write more in the blog and I wish that I can give you all knowledge I have :)

RTOS Course, It was more than amazing

Peace be upon you

How are you guys? I have been busy for while in many things, I have just finished RTOS course, let us begin with simple thing which is What is RTOS? simply it is Real Time Operating System, the course was all about concepts and main ideas behind it, What I understand from this course is that it is all about time, time is most critical issue in the Real Time Operating System, Also Multitasking is very important issue, anyways I will write more detailed post about it, here is some photos taken from the lab.

This is the development kit that we use.

This is the output of the application that I have wrote, I have wrote it after doing the workshop, it was very tight as availability of time,

My application was XBM reader, the XBM format is Array of image information, I have got this image form the internet, the other part of the application was gradient effect in the back ground, it is in lines each line wide is 40 pixel, it toggle lines, one start with Whites end with orange, and the other one starts with black ends with dark blue.

here is the code of the drawing function, this function is very effective because it has direct access to LCD  memory.

The nice thing about this thing is it is very fast, the OS starts in less than one second, also drawing was very fast because of the nature of the device, the device work by memory, which means, if you want to run anything you get to its memory location and start what ever you want, it is WIDE OPEN, waiting for whatever you want.

Thanks for your time,

The First MDC ever, MDC 2003

Peace be upon you,

How are you guys? I hope that there is everything is going OK with all of you, today I am going to talk about something little bit historical, also this thing is some kind of my happiness days every year, the days I am talking about is MDC days, MDC stands for "Mideast Developer Conference", this conference held ever year in Egypt, This conference is very important to me, Why? because it is the only 4 whole days we talk about technical issues, no TASKS, no RULES, no THINGS that I hate, just cool people who is talking about new technologies, also there is plenty of sessions so I attend what I really like to attend, the time line of MDC, first see the MDC first logo and note sheet:

That was the logo for MDC 2003

this is the notepad that was given by Microsoft

I attend all the MDC's, but of course I don't carry this thing for all that time, here is the time line for the MDC

MDC 2003 -> First MDC I was in 3rd grade at institute, it was AMAZING, Mohamed ALaa was a start in this MDC, all people likes him, he give some sessions he talked about Smart devices, he shows us some tools, at this days there was only VS.NET 2002, with .NET framework 1.0, he also show us some add-ins and tools for VS.NET, I was totally alone, I know no one there, the only thing that I have got there is Mohamed Alaa Card, I called him and I ask him for help, he was very nice, he ask me to have a visit to Microsoft Egypt, he gave a beta copy of VS.NET DVD, I really like this guy, I hope that I have chance to meet him :), I think he is the golden guy at Microsoft Egypt.

MDC 2004 -> Bill gates was going to say a keynote for Egyptian developers, unfortunately I couldn't attend the first day, of course I missed his keynote, but I attend the other days, it was very good, I was sick (FLU), I don't remember anything.

MDC 2005 -> for the second year on consecutively Bill Gates come and have the keynote to Egyptian Developers, this time I attend (haa :D), I was one the front lines, I met the Arab team guys, it was the best year Ever, I got about 30 friend there, there is Remarkable friends there I can't forget, they are always on my mind and my heart, they are my brothers, here is listing of them
Ahmed Ezz
Belal Younes
Mohamed Abd Aliem
Mohamed Hossam
Mohamed Milligy
Mohamed Tanna
Tarek Ibrahim

There is many guys, I met there but I don't remember all of them, but this guys are remarkable and unforgettable, They are truly my brothers, It was the best MDC for me

MDC 2006-> this year was so reach, the give us VS.NET 2005, at this time I was admired with ASP.NET 2.0, so I wrote my book that was talking about ASP.NET 2.0 for my Arabian development brothers :D, I also got a very cool friend there, he is Patrick Hynds, he is a very good guy, who cares about security, just like me :D, I took his card and I contact him.

MDC 2007-> really it was so repeated, we hardly got new information from it.

Common things that is happen in MDC, is Raffle, every year they do raffle and they give very good gifts, Mohamed Milligy wins twice :D, also we used to get Downtown and have some fun with Arab Team guys

At the end we are now waiting for the beloved MDC, there is no clear date for it, but there is Expectation that it will be with ICT 2008

Thanks for your time

Microsoft : Double Thanks !!!

Peace be upon you

How are you guys? today and as unusual I will put some code, why??? Because I want someone to judge what I have done.

Let us take it from the beginning, I wrote this because I sent to Microsoft (I like to work there), I will sort it as I remember, Firs the Phone interviews, I will put only the question that I didn't answer
  • what is the difference between class and struct in C#?

  • - the difference is the struct is unmanaged object and class is managed object, what I mean , if you try to use sizeof which is located in (System.Runtime.InteropServices) you will see that it takes the unmanaged class or struct which means that the sturct is a some sort of unmanaged object,I found some similarity while I am trying, I found that the struct can inherit from interface, that's what I have tried I didn't try to inherit from class, but I think as long as it works with the interface it will work with class

  • P.S: I used VS.NET 2005 which has C# 2

  • what is the maximum number of functions in the dll?

  • - I don't remember exactly the question, so what I have tried is ,export some function using the ordinal, and I found it is Ok until it reaches to 65535, after that it give me linking error number 1119, how do I get it I will tell you.I though that when I read dll and when I use GetProcAddress using ordinal, I do some sort of casting to let it go, I imagined it like if it exceed that limition it will cause a problem to the GetProcAddress, why, simply because the function will not be able to know what is coming to it, is it string or ordinal, I have though also this limit is for the Unicode version of the GetProcAddress, there is 2 functions for GetProcAddress and here is sorting for this functions

  • GetProcAddressW : I think it's limit will be 65535

  • GetProcAddressA : this is the ASCII version and I think it's limit will be 255,

  • How does the Garbage collector works?

  • - as I told you before it manages the allocation and de-allocation of the memory, also the garbage collector works fine with objects that implement the IDisposable interface, this interface is like the destructor in C++, there is one thing about it the Garbage collector don't work efficiently when the developer uses "unsafe", the user have to manage the his/her pointer as he/she likes, I also read that the Garbage collector work with object in heap with it's status, what I mean is ,when the developer allocate object, the object is in LIVE mode, when the user change the object by allocating new object or any way, the old object get status DEAD, after that when the garbage collector pass over allocated object and it's status it de-allocate all object with status DEAD, logically, the garbage collector will call the "Dispose" if the object has the implementation of IDisposable.

Here is the answers for the form interview, it has the code that I told you about

As you look ahead to potential career opportunities, what are the “must have” criteria that you will be using to determine which opportunity is the right one for you?
1. The place where I can unleash my creativity power.
2. Place where I can be one of the technology leaders
3. Place that I have passion to be in like Microsoft (since I used DOS at 1998 I started dreaming to work there)

What is your strongest programming language (C, C++, C#, VB, Java, ASP, HTML, etc…)?
C# and C++

When was the last time you wrote C/C++ code?
Today

What percentage of your time do you spend writing code?
60%

Do you have experience with multi-threaded programming? If so please explain.
Yes, I will explain with sample of what I have done before over windows mobile.
Once there was tasked assigned to me and it was to allow user to draw in freehand style and after the user release the styles the application should calculate the size of the image with (Jpg) format.
I did a thread that works with low priority, I have added 2 flags:
· IsExit (used to de-allocate all memory and exit form the thread)
· IsReleased (Used to create the Jpg file and get its size), while it is happening the size label has the word "Loading…"
In this case I used the threading for avoiding the Interface freezing, there is other cases used to enhance the application performance and to make use of the hardware, for example to make use of the Hyper Threading processors the application must be well threaded, also it is applied on the processors with the multi core

How much experience do you have performing code and design reviews?
6 months
What percentage of code have you written was kernel mode and what percentage was user mode?
10% Kernel mode, 90% user mode

Please comment on your experience level and discuss projects worked on in the following areas as it relates to Test (if applicable):

Performance
Performance is the way of handling resources wisely, it is very important to do testing over the application performance for many reason, for example if the application is performance loose on mobile devices it will case a battery consumption.
Scalability
The application must be able to grow up and expand with the as user expects it, I don't have something in my mind related to testing right now
Stress Testing
It's away to test the application robustness on the huge load from users.
Microsoft provides tools for web stress test.
I have wrote application to test "Transaction server"
End to End testing
As I think this type of testing is to ensure that the business logic is correctly supported and working properly.
Simulation
I don't know much about it, but I wrote application that simulate the behavior of "POS client" to do stress test over the Transaction Server
Tuning
It's away to replace some working parts of the system with enhanced parts, like removing some code that takes long time to execute with code that is work better in the perspective of performance and correctly reach to the target
System Integration
This when new system is installed to older working system, in this type of testing the both systems should work correctly properly with effecting on each of the work negatively and also it should give the expected result form integration

Please respond to the below as it relates to your current project/product:

What percentage of your current project did you own?
30%
What percentage was of your design? How much was new code and how much was enhancements?
I don't understand the first part, 70% was new code and 30% was enhancement
What layer are you working on? (kernel, middleware, UI)

Kernel, Middleware
What percent of coding was yours on the project?
60%
How would you characterize your philosophy toward testing?
I don't know what does the question means but I will answer based on what I have understand,
For me testing is the core of perfection of the project, based one the feed back that testing gave me (what ever it was (unit test or release test)) it help me to enhance the product and reach with it to the optimum user satisfaction

How do you test your code? Someone else's?
I write some code to test it spending some time with debugging

Please complete each question and indicate how long each question took you to complete.

Write a function that would: return the 5th element from the end in a singly linked list of integers, in one pass, and then provide a set of test cases against that function.

Write me a function that receives three integer inputs for the lengths of the sides of a triangle and returns one of four values to determine the triangle type (1=scalene, 2=isosceles, 3=equilateral, 4=error). Generate test cases for the function assuming another developer coded the function

Write a function to reverse the words in a string (“cat and dog” becomes “tac dna god”).

Thanks for your time
